1990s Hairstyles

The hairstyles of the 90s weren't as big as the extreme styles of the 80s. Sure, many were still large, but they were more sexy. This in part thanks to the emergence of supermodels--the beautiful girls whom we knew by their first names.

The supermodels often played up their hair to great effect either to promote the fashionable clothes for Versace and other top designers on the runways of New York, Paris, Milan or London--or to sell fashion magazines.

Supermodels like Cindy Crawford also made the cover of leading hair magazines like Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide.

"No supermodel has ever landed a promotional contract for her tresses alone," observed Vogue magazine (Sept. 1993), "until now. Stephanie Seymour has just signed on the dotted line to be the hair [model] for L'Oreal."

A few years later, in 1995, rising star Jennifer Aniston took the world by storm and became a hair "supermodel." She was known the world over for her acting and crowning glory; and she too landed a hair modeling contract with L'Oreal.
