Ruffled Curls Back in Style

April 19, 1968

What is happening to hair? Yes, there is something different, something totally romantic and feminine. There are curls, but in a new way. Coiffures now have become a picture-perfect frame for the face with curls blossoming softly onto the cheeks.

Breck girl

The "ruffled curl" look is the new look in hair styles for summer. This look features all of the tender quality of softly ruffled hair, combined with care-free, fun-loving curls. The new styles are highly romantic. This term has not been used in the fashion vocabulary for many years until recent trends brought it to the forefront.

Now romantic hair styles are pulling the various clothing looks in the fashion world together, be they chic, ruffled or pretty girl. This look means that regardless of what you may select for your summer wardrobe or even if you use several that overlap for a variety of effects, you will be pretty and fashion-right with the "ruffled curl."

The foundation for new summer styles must be adapted to each individual face and head shape. Generally speaking, lengths will be comparatively short. "If you want long hair, buy it," say the experts.

A professionally applied permanent wave, one that is a
shadow of a permanent, is prescribed to give the hair that soft flair and ease-of-care. Important too are some good conditioning treatments to erase any trace of winter drabness and give you a shiny young romantic look.

Little Girl Styling

Mrs. Howard R. Aldrich is pictured today in a typical "little girls" summer styling by Glen Dow. It is topped by a summer arrangement of daisies and ribbon. Jose Vigil created the design of Celene Grashio. This is recommended for evening occasions and is accented by a smaller arrangement of daisies and ribbon.

Patty Bro wears a daytime idea with bangs suitable for summer which was styled by Virginia Sherry. Most of the designs shown today have been created with the addition of hair pieces, something that has become an indispensible part of many women’s wardrobes.

Another evening effort is seen on Mrs. Walter F. Pronath. Produced by Louis Vigil, it is perfect for any after-five event including the most formal ball. A daytime version of the “ruffled curl” is on Mrs. Jimmy R. Moore thanks to Lee Boyd.

1930 Makeup Returns

As for make-up, the important look is reminiscent of the 30s, a look of big smudgy eyes and prominent bright lips, local authorities say. Eyes may be smudged with either dark brown or smoky black shadow. Lips should be of equal intensity to complement the eyes. The mouth must be bright, of pink or cherry, in deep but translucent color. Cheeks, chin and forehead also will require a warm blush of rouge, said Miss Jeanette Brenner, news chairman for the IECA.
